Create a Schedule
The first step is creating a consistent schedule. That means, being strict with yourself about what time you go to sleep, and what time you wake up. Aim to go to bed and wake up at the exact same time every day so you can train your body to follow this rhythm.
Just like with any habit, repetition is key. Be consistent with your schedule the same as you would with any other important appointment. The more practice you get doing something, the more it will start to become like a second instinct.
Establish a Ritual

Get yourself into a sleepy state by engaging in relaxing activities like taking a bath, or listening to soft music.

Your environment has everything to do with the amount and quality of sleep you get. This is why it’s so important that you create a sleep environment that promotes relaxation and comfort. It has to be dark and of course the right temperature. Sleeping in too cold or too hot of a room can inhibit our ability to fall and stay asleep. You also want to make sure that there are no distracting noises or activities going on that could keep you from entering a deep sleep. Consider using tools like blackout curtains or even white noise machines to filter out external factors that can disturb your sleep.
